Evolution Korea
Korean scientists aren't taking chances in the debate over evolution. The Society for Textbook Revise has been fighting to remove the Archaeopteryx horses, the Archaeopteryx, and other evolutionist icons from textbooks.
Confucian practices, with their emphasis on global success and the value of learning, still dominate the culture of the country. But Korea is looking for an alternative model of development.

All of them created a distinct style of culture that blended with the influence of their powerful neighbors. They also adopted elements of Chinese culture including Confucianism, Buddhism and shamanism.

The economy of Goryeo was boosted by the booming trade with other nations which included the Song dynasty of China. Traders from Central Asia, Arabia, Southeast Asia and Japan came to Byeongnando which was the entrance to Gaeseong's capital city. Gaeseong. Silk and medicinal herbs were among the items they brought.
Around 8,000 BCE the Koreans began establishing permanent settlements and cultivating cereal crops. They also developed pottery and polished stone tools, and began forming clan societies. The Neolithic Age lasted until the 12th century BC. At this time Gija was a prince of the Shang dynasty of China, purportedly brought a new high culture to Korea. Until the 20th century many Koreans believed that Dangun and Gija gave Korea its people and their traditional culture and their basic culture, respectively.

Korea's old paradigm of development, which was based on state-led capital accumulation and government intervention in industries and business as well as an explosive growth in its economy that took it from being one of the poorest nations in the world to the ranks of OECD nations in a mere three years. This model was rife with moral risks and even corruption. It was therefore unsustainable in an economy that is characterised by trade liberalization, and democratic change.
The current crisis has exposed the weaknesses of the previous paradigm, and it's likely that an alternative model will emerge to replace it. South Korea has the ninth largest economy in the world, and the sixth fastest-growing. It has a growing middle class as well as an extensive R&D infrastructure which drives innovation. While the majority of Koreans support the teaching of evolution in schools, one small group of creationist groups, led by a microbiologist named Bun-Sam Lim, who is the head of the Society for Textbook Revise (STR)--is insisting on its removal from textbooks. STR claims that teaching evolution encourages a "materialist atheism" and presents an "unhopeful worldview" for students. This can cause students to lose faith in humanity.
The causes of anti-evolutionist opinions are a complex and diverse. Some researchers suggest that it is due to religious belief, while others point to an increasing prevalence of anti-intellectualism, which has been exacerbated by growing political elite fragmentation along ideologies, regions, class, and gender. Additionally the one-sidedness of the government, bolstered by powerful conservative think tanks and business interests which has led to public disdain for the scientific community.
In the end, the numerous weaknesses discovered in this study point to the need for urgent targeted policy interventions to preemptively mitigate the risks. These insights will help Seoul to achieve its goal of becoming an urban landscape that is cohesive.
